    Understanding and Entering the Kingdom

    Understanding and Entering the Kingdom

    Luke 13:18-30 | JD Summers

What is the kingdom of God like? To what does Jesus compare it? It is like a mustard seed, expanding from small to large. It is like leaven, transforming all that is around it. And it is like a narrow door into which only those who humble themselves by faith and repentance can enter. Let us rejoice in the kingdom of God and strive to enter it by grace!

Restoration and Rebuke on the Sabbath

Restoration and Rebuke on the Sabbath

    Luke 13:10-17 | JD Summers

Is your heart more compelled by a breach of etiquette or by a person in need? Jesus calls us to move past our human traditions and critical spirits and instead seek to love those around us. Jesus redeems the people he chooses in the way he desires. He pours out his grace on the least of these, and he demonstrates his compassion and power in ways that don’t always make sense to us. Let us embrace his sovereign plan and pour out his love to a world in need!

    Repent or Perish

    Repent or Perish

    Luke 13:1-9 | JD Summers

Repentance is a universal need. It is not just for those who are especially sinful but for everyone, because everyone is truly sinful and guilty before God. When we see bad things happen to friends, family, or even ourselves, we should not immediately leap to the conclusion that God is pouring out retributive justice for sin, but rather we should consider that God is just and we all deserve to perish for our own sin. Praise be to God who bestows the grace of repentance upon those who believe! Let us turn from our sin and embrace Christ by faith!

The Immeasurable Greatness of His Power

The Immeasurable Greatness of His Power

    Ephesians 1:15-23 | JD Summers

The life of the Christian is often one of weakness, failure, and difficulty. We struggle as we wonder what we are really able to do and accomplish. But God is able to do all, and he already has worked his incomparable power in and for us. The power of God raised Jesus from the dead, seated him at the right hand of the Father, placed him in authority over all of his enemies and every entity in the universe, and ultimately will unite all things together in Jesus. This is the power of the resurrection. This is the power of Jesus at work in us!

    The Meaning of the Atonement

    The Meaning of the Atonement

    Various Texts | JD Summers

Jesus paid the price for our sins by giving himself as an offering on our behalf. What does that mean for us? It means we can have joy and that we should give thanks. But it also means that we can have confidence - confidence in our right standing before God, confidence that our sins are forgiven forever, confidence that we are accepted by the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. Let us walk in the wonderful freedom and assurance that the atonement wins for us!

    The Model of the Atonement

    The Model of the Atonement

    Genesis 3; 22; Exodus 12; Leviticus 16 | JD Summers

At the heart of the Christian faith is the gospel, and at the heart of the gospel is the atonement. It carries such a central place because it addresses the most basic needs of humans: We all have sin that leads to guilt and shame. Atonement pays for our guilt and removes our shame. Let us embrace the atonement of the sacrificial lamb, Jesus Christ!
